A STORY OF RESILIENCE
"K" - High School Student
The Challenge
​
K came to TEEG after being suspended from school for having a knife in their bag. They had very little support outside of the home, and few positive activities to keep them engaged.
​
The Support
​
Through our Out of School Program, K earned community service hours, engaged in Restorative Justice reflection, and completed schoolwork with staff support. When an expulsion hearing was schedule staff encouraged K to write a letter about their circumstances- a recent move, cancer remission- and their eagerness to return to school.
​
The Outcome
​
K's letter was read at their hearing and resulted in only a 2-week expulsion. During that time they formed meaningful connections in the community and spent their time helping others who needed support.
