Supporting Families
Navigating the complex system of aging, healthcare, and personal independence can be a daunting task.
TEEG offers many programs to Seniors including heat assistance, food security, SNAP application assistance, healthcare benefits enrollment and changes, access to healthcare, homeowner advice, and counseling.
We meet with Seniors at the TEEG office (15 Thatcher Road, North Grosvenordale), at the Pomfret Senior Center (207 Mashamoquet Road, Pomfret), or locations in the community.
CHOICES Counseling
Pomfret Senior Center
Unbiased, in-depth, one-on-one Medicare counseling to adults 65+ and persons with disabilities so they may understand and apply for Medicare coverage and healthcare options. These benefits include
-Counseling on all parts of Medicare, including Original Medicare (Parts A&B), Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C), Medigap Plans, and Prescription Drug Plans (Part D)
-Provide enrollment assistance and plan comparisons for Medicare Part C and D
-Provide eligibility screenings and application assistance with cost-assistance programs to help make Medicare affordable, such as HUSKY (Medicaid) and/or the Medicare Savings Program (MSP) and the Low-Income Subsidy Program (LIS)

Renter's Rebate
This program begins on April 1st and runs through October 1st. Renters who are 65 (as of December 31st of the previous year) or older, or 100% disabled, and meet income guidelines are eligible to receive a rebate for rent expenses. If you have previously applied to the program or are a new renter in Thompson, please call the town hall to schedule an appointment. TEEG Client Care Coordinators make referrals to this town-run program.
Social Security Benefits
Social Security Disability
These benefits are monthly payments based on your lifetime earnings. To be eligible you must be age 62 or older and have worked and paid taxes for 10 years or more.
These benefits are monthly payments for people who have a disability or blindness through work history.
Homeowners Program
This program begins on February 1st and runs through May 15th. If you are 65 (as of December 31st of the previous year) or older, or 100% disabled, and meet income guidelines, you may wish to call the town hall to schedule an appointment to apply for a tax credit. Re-applicants will be notified by mail to re-file. TEEG Client Care Coordinators make referrals to this town-run program.
Supplemental Security Income
These benefits are monthly payments to people who have little or no income and little or no resources and a disability, blindness or are age 65 or older.

CHOICES stands for Connecticut’s program for Health insurance assistance, Outreach, Information and referral, Counseling and Eligibility Screening. The program offers Connecticut’s older adults and persons with disabilities a one-stop resource that provides information and referral services on a wide variety of aging-related matters.
This includes assistance with health insurance concerns and enrollment in Medicare Programs. We help seniors to understand and exercise their rights, to receive benefits to which they are entitled, and to make informed choices about insurance options.
TEEG staff are certified CHOICES counselors and work with the Senior Resources Area Agency on Aging to offer these services.

Programs include speakers from the medical, legal, law enforcement, health, and financial professions. We also offer a nutritionally balanced lunch provided by TVCCA and daily exercise programs.
All programs offered at PSC are provided free of charge. Small monetary donations are always greatly appreciated to support future programming.
The PSC is open to all area seniors regardless of town of residence or income.
