Monthly Commodity Food Distribution
Helping Families and Individuals to Stretch Their Monthly Budgets

TEEG’s Food Security program empowers families and individuals to stretch their monthly budget by giving them healthy food to supplement their home pantries.

For individuals faced with making the choice between buying food or paying bills, the TEEG food security program literally puts food on the table. Additionally, we offer nutrition and health education information with every distribution, enabling us to feed both the bodies and the minds of those accessing our services.

This program is supported by the Connecticut Food Bank, local churches, businesses, and schools, as well as the generosity of our neighbors in Northeastern Connecticut.

If you are homebound or transportation is limited, we will make arrangemenst to get food to you. Please call 860-923-3458.

Food Security Programs

TEEG is staffing (in a rotation) and supporting the CT Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry that is at St. Mary’s School Parking lot at 23 Marshall St. Putnam on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 to noon. This is an effort from the Food Bank to provide more individuals with access to fresh/perishable foods beyond what the local food pantries are able to offer.

TEEG is also a member of Ample Harvest (www.Ampleharvest.org). This organization attempts to link food growers and producers with local food pantries in an effort distribute more fresh food that would otherwise go bad. There are flyers and press materials around issues of food insecurity and food waste on the site. TEEG is always looking for freshly grown produce!

Monthly Commodity Distribution: TEEG believes food security is a basic right. Our monthly distribution program helps families stretch limited dollars to pay monthly bills and purchase perishable food, while relying on TEEG for staple food items.

Emergent Food Distribution: TEEG ensures adequate nutritional resources for every member of our community. Our food pantry is available to help any community member in an emergency.

Summer Food Service Program: Serving as an Open Enrollment Site for the Summer Food Service Program of the USDA, TEEG provides free lunch to area children. Last year we served 3,454 lunches! Lunchtime is a place to find a nutritious meal, important information and some fun.
